Gerda III

This was a very moving project to be involved with. The Museum of Jewish Heritage in New York approached me about recreating Gerda III as a custom LEGO kit. Gerda III was one of dozens of vessels that helped evacuate over 95% of Danish Jews in October of 1943, transporting them to the safe shores of Sweden. Its a part of 20th Century history that I knew little about.

The boat is now at the Mystic Seaport Museum in Connecticut. The custom kit was created for a new exhibition called Courage To Act: Rescue in Denmark, which opened at MOJH on October 15th 2023.

The kit itself was a challenge to design, with all its curves! The 316 piece kit measures 25cm long. It includes a few custom printed pieces, including a Danish flag and the boat’s name.
