Derby Cathedral

One of my largest LEGO models to-date! Commissioned by Derby Cathedral this model took around 8 months to create and was revealed in Derby Cathedral late July 2025.

The 1:180 scale model uses over 50,000 genuine LEGO pieces and measures 250x130cm. The focal point is Derby Cathedral, but the brief was to show the cathedral in context. The surrounding streets and buildings were all built to the same level of detail. It was quite an undertaking, with the complex angles of the roads, elevation from the river and wide range of architectural styles making it a very complex build.

Until 21st August 2025 the model will be on display in the cathedral itself, forming part of a series of events and activities connected to LEGO. Find out more about the Brick by Brick Festival here. If you do manage to visit, don’t forget to look out for the twelve LEGO animals dotted around the model!

Update!

Now that the festival is over, the model has been removed from the cathedral. However, the middle section of it can still be viewed in the window of the cathedral’s offices directly across the road!
