Oil Refinery

This was one of the most challenging custom LEGO models I’ve ever undertaken! A 150x150cm recreation of an oil refinery in Germany. The project took a few months in early 2024 and involved working from a 3D fly-through and schematics.

The result was one of the most visually interesting models I’ve created, packed full of details and with some very unusual parts usage. There are towers made from wheel components, hub caps for vents, Technics cogs for platforms, skeleton arms for support structures and all sorts of weird and wonderful pieces!

The model was for Sulzer, and is based on one of their new generation of oil refineries. It was displayed at an event in Germany in 2024, adding another level of complexity as the model had to be built in sections for ease of transport.
